This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the 47th Annual College Ethics Symposium in Hilton Head, SC. This event gave me the chance to dive into some really important discussions around ethics in business, society, and personal decisions. It was eye-opening to see how much ethical decision-making shapes the world we live in.

All the facilitators and speakers were well educated and had very successful careers and had faced difficult ethical issues. I liked hearing about how they dealt with such things and how it helped them grow as a person. It really got me thinking about my future and where I am now and where I would like to be in the future. Also, the activities outside of the ethics discussions were so much fun!

I loved getting to dive deep with my discussion group and we all got super close and had a lot of respect for each other. I also got to hear so many different perspectives and learn about new worldviews.

I have a better understanding of other people’s cultures. I found it interesting hearing other people’s point of views about certain topics and how they may have differed from mine.

I was recently reminded of how transformational my experience at the ethics conference last October was. That experience had a profound impact on me, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it.

Despite the diversity of group members and perspectives, we all had one thing in common: mutual respect for one another, our values, and viewpoints.

It was interesting to see how many different view points there are and that there is not just one solution to an ethical dilemma. It's important to think through the different solutions and the stakeholders involved before taking action.

I really enjoyed the discussion between students of different backgrounds - both in case discussions AND informal discussion. It was nice to have people from different areas of the country, different religion, background, etc. than me. I really recommend keeping trying to expand the program to more and more schools. This would help provide even more perspectives and generate more discussion. I also really enjoyed staying with the host family. They really wanted to make us feel at home and they succeeded in doing so. The conversations over dinner and just in general were fantastic, and I would say on the same level as the discussions with students.
I really learned that ethics is not all boring. Ethics applies to everyday decisions, and I will likely use them every day in the future.
