The Planning Team
The College Ethics Symposium (CES) is organzied by a small group of volunteers. There are two main groupings. The first group primarily focuses on tbe logistical aspects of the program. The second group are the facilitators who lead the small group sessions that are at the core of the program.
Mike Flood - Chairman
Michael Flood is a retired Naval Aviator and current Delta Airlines Captain. Mike is a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he earned his BS in Mathematics and lettered in gymnastics.
During Mike’s 20-year career as a Naval Officer, he held many diverse positions, served on ships and bases around the world and achieved Aircraft Commander on four different aircraft.
After leaving active duty Mike joined ExpressJet Airlines, quickly climbed the ranks to become a Chief Pilot, leading and mentoring over 1,100 pilots and serving as a direct liaison to the FAA, TSA, local law enforcement and government. He was a key member of the leadership team tasked with launching a new airline. Mike was also a Check Airman, responsible for training and mentoring pilots.
Currently, Mike is a Captain for Delta Airlines. He flies the Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft and enjoys seeing the world from what he describes as “the best office view available”.
Mike is very active in the Hilton Head community as an elder and youth ministry leader in a local church, and as the Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 245. Most importantly, Mike is a husband and father of three boys.
Steve Miller - Treasure
Steve and his wife Bonnie have been coming to Hilton Head Island for about 20 years and became fulltime residents for the last 14 years. Born in California, moved to New Jersey and lived there until moving to Hilton head Island. He has been involved with the Symposium for about 12 years now serving as its treasurer. Attended Athens State University where he received a dual degree in Accounting and Economics. Became a Certified Public Accountant and, ultimately, a Certified Municipal Finance Officer and served for 10 years as the Chief Financial Officer for two towns. Served 3 terms as mayor and member of the township committee of his home town as well as serving numerous years as an elder overseeing the budget and finance operations of their church.
Steve is a classic car enthusiast and he and his wife travel frequently to Texas to visit their son, daughter-in-law and their two grandsons.
Jaime Palatucci - Web Guy
Jaime has been a resident of Hilton Head Island since 2005. He was born and raised in New York's bucolic Hudson River Valley. He has been involved with the College Ethics Symposium for over 20 years, mostly in the role of small group facilitator. In the past, he also served on the symposium's organizing committee. Jaime is tenacious in his pursuits, becoming an Eagle Scout, captain of both his high school and college rowing teams. He participated with the U.S. Lightweight rowing team following college. He graduated with honors from Marist College with a dual major in economics and business. He also earned a MBA from Marist College. He had a 22 year career with IBM Corporation. Starting in the mail room, he held numerous management positions in finance and held international management and executive positions in Tokyo, Japan, Paris, France, and Latin America. He was the Director of Operations and Finance for IBM's Europe's Software Business unit; a $2.5B gross sales operation. Following his stint with IBM and relocation to Hilton Head Island, he and his wife, Julia work in the Real Estate field. Julia primarily does new construction real estate sales and Jaime does property management for both long term and vacation rentals. They also do real estate remodeling and investing. He enjoys spending time with his 7 grandchildren and has landscaping and remodeling hobbies.
Robin Zimmerman - Activity Coordinator
Robyn has had a long career in the communications and public relations field. She served for almost 20 years as the Director of Public and Community Relations for Greenville Health System in Greenville, SC. Prior to that, Robyn worked for the state of South Carolina with several state agencies in public affairs and spokesperson roles and served as Press Secretary for Governor David Beasley. Robyn also worked in television broadcasting for many years with WSPA-TV 7 in Spartanburg, SC, KGUN TV in Tucson, Arizona and SCETV in Columbia. In her retirement, Robyn works as a television host and news anchor locally at WHHI-TV. She anchors the Daily News and hosts Talk of the Town and North of the Broad.
Dr. Bill McCoy - Activity Coordinator
Dr. McCoy joined the Clemson University family as the Director of the Rutland Institute for Ethics on March 1, 2018. Previously, Dr. McCoy was the Director of Ethics Education and Diversity Initiatives for the College of Business at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois. In his previous role, he advised a student ethics organization and served as chair of the Interdepartmental Faculty for Ethics Committee and the BELIEF (Building Ethical Leaders using an Integrated Ethics Framework) Corporate Advisory Board. Dr. McCoy also served as the liaison between the College of Business and NIU’s office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Dr. McCoy has a bachelor’s degree in English (NIU), a master’s degree in Continuing and Vocational Education (University of Wisconsin–Madison), and a Doctoral degree in Educational Administration (Edgewood College). He has been a part of the College Ethics Symposium since 2021.
Mike Brock - Housing Coordinator
Mike is a 1972 graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in Industrial Management. He began working as a part-time loader at United Parcel Service in 1970 while a junior in college. After graduation, he proudly served as a U.S. Army Medical Corpsman before returning to UPS in management in the Industrial Engineering Department and went on to become a Senior Vice President in Operations. His UPS career spanned 33 years, relocating 12 times to 10 different states and 2 countries.
Mike is a blessed husband with 5 kids, 10 grands, 4 great-grands, 2 French Bulldogs, 1 Andalusian horse and a 1955 Chevy BelAir. After retiring from UPS, Mike and Lori relocated, once again, to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where he began doing volunteer work. As a founding member of the South Coastal Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he was introduced to the Christian Heritage Breakfast and the College Ethics Symposium in 2005 where he continues to serve both organizations' Planning Teams as part of the Breakfast and Symposium Group. The annual Breakfast is 30 years old and the Symposium is in their 49th year.
The College Ethics Symposium began utilizing the Host Family concept in 2010 and Mike has coordinated that effort to this day making friends with local HHI residents that have opened their hearts and their homes to be a Host Family for visiting students and faculty advisors attending the College Ethics Symposium. Mike and his wife, Lori, lived on Hilton Head Island for 22 years before relocating, again, to the Foothills of North Carolina in 2020 to allow Lori to pursue her love of regularly showing her horse in Dressage at the Tryon International Equestrian Complex. God continues to bless Mike's life and that of his family and friends.
